The Lord of Springfield: The Fellowship of Springfield

A Long-expected Party

Springfield was abuzz with the preparations for Krusty's birthday party. The old clown was turning 111, and the whole town turned out to share in the festivities. There was cake, and fireworks, and Duff beer for all.

Krusty at last got up to give the traditional birthday speech, "I don't know most of you half as well as twice times ... wait, where are my notes? Ah, the hell with it! You all make me sick and I'm outta here!" And he vanished before their astonished eyes. The citizens of Springfield gasped and then went back to their beers.

When Bart returned to Krusty's house, Krusty was waiting for him. "Look, I'm gonna level with you, kid. I've got this evil ring that's become kind of inconvenient for me since it's messing with my pacemaker and everything. Not that it hasn't given me some good times ... hoo-boy, I remember the time when I put it on and snuck into the women's basketball team locker room and ... uh, anyway, you don't want to wear it too much, believe me. Anyway, you're the ringbearer now, chump." After playing the "where's the ring?" gag several times, he finally gave it to Bart. "If anyone want's me, I'll be at Moe's Tavern in Bree," he said before he went on his way, singing "Hit the road Jack, don't you look back, no more, no more..."

Since his best friends, Samhouse Gamgee, Rod Took and Martin Brandybuck were listening in on this conversation, Bart consulted them on what to do with the ring and they quickly pooled their resources. "We've got a fake I.D., $200 worth of mushrooms and an evil ring," said Samhouse. "Let's go to a Renaissance fair!"

"Yeah, we could do that," said Bart, "but I think with this fake i.d. that says I'm a 33-year-old named Mr. Underhill, we should go to Moe's in Bree! It's Krusty's favorite bar!" The group agreed and after their mothers packed them a lunch, they set out on what promised to be another amusing adventure.

"Can I wear the ring for a little while, Bart?" asked Rod plaintively. "No. No you can't," said Bart, pocketing the trinket.

As the tramped along, singing "The ants go marching two by two," Bart suddenly was afraid. "Get off the road, now!" he yelled at them. The foursome hid under a large tree root. Above them, a fearsome bully paused, as if he could smell them. Bart felt an overwhelming urge to put the ring on ... followed by an even stronger urge to drop his pants and moon everyone. Samhouse saw Bart's distress and physically restrained him from doing either.
